Boosters

Creating great people through great music.

That is an incredible mission statement, and as your Band Booster President for the 2023-2024 season, I am excited, committed, and honored to be working with not only our outstanding band directors, but also with our band parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles, caregivers, and community members to pursue that very objective!

You may be asking yourself, “just what exactly is the band booster club?” If you had asked me that same question two years ago, I would not have been able to give you a straight answer; we are comprised of parents, guardians, alumni, and other individuals interested in furthering our mission, and if your child participates in the Seymour High School Band program, you are automatically a member! However, after two (extremely rewarding) years, I have come to realize that the Seymour Band Boosters is so much more than just a group of “band parents”—we are an organization whose sole purpose is to not only provide financial assistance to our band program, but to support, encourage, and assist our kids and directors in making their goals a reality. Whether that is by participating in fundraising opportunities to purchase new instruments or pushing a large prop onto the field during a competition, our purpose is to give our students every possible chance at success.

But we cannot do it without your help!

If you can sell a hot dog in a concession stand, we need you.

If you can ride a bus with a group of kids, we need you.

If you can hem a guard uniform, we need you.

If you can cut a watermelon, we need you.

There are so many opportunities to serve and so many ways to get involved that it would be impossible for me to list them all here. But the real question is, are you willing? Are you willing to step along beside us in pursuing that mission statement? Whether you have an inordinate amount of time to volunteer, or just a few moments here and there, I would encourage you to get involved.

In closing, I want to share a personal experience with you. I specifically remember a conversation that I had with another “band mom” after one of the competitions last fall. She told me how excited she had been watching the band during their performance and how great the kids had looked from the stands. I didn’t have the heart to tell her that her excitement was absolutely NOTHING compared to being physically present with those same kids just seconds after they had left the field. The feeling of pride, joy, and exhilaration at how well they had performed was infectious; I may have teared up just a bit as I watched them experience the fruits of their hard work and dedication.

That is what it’s all about, folks.

We have the privilege of assisting these kids to realize their dreams and goals; and you never know, you may even be blessed yourself—I know that I have. Please consider joining us this season in creating great people through great music.

I look forward to serving with you this season. We have great things in store!
